For one hour I’m free
Free of all these thoughts
I allow myself to forget
I let myself forget my fears
I move my body and run

This hour allows me clarity
This hours allows me silence
I move not to be idle
I move to be alone
I miss sometime alone

The sun warms my back
The streets are my support
I revel in the emptiness
I just feel my breathing
I actually love my city?

Oh, right I’m just running…

My mind begin to wander
My emotions surface eventually
I think of my favorite person
I think of us together
I think of what matters

I feel strangers’s eyes
I feel their utter bewilderment
Why am I their subject?
Why do Black folks stare too?
Why make this weird strangers?

Oh right, I’m running…

How long has this been?
How much is my limit?
Do I want this punishment?
Do I prolong this?
Do I have the strength?

Should I even run today?
Should I stay in bed?
Maybe I move to move?
Maybe I run to feel alive?
Maybe I’m over thinking?

Oh, right I’m running…
Because for one hour…
I need to be free
